Pulsar is new. The team behind it has done this since 2000.
Every Pulsar case is run by MDabroad, the medical assistance and claims company that global health insurers, diplomatic missions and ministries of foreign affairs have relied on for 26 years.
Our roots.
MDabroad started in 2000 with one job: when a traveler gets sick far from home, get them to the right doctor fast, and make sure the hospital is paid without the patient fronting the bill.
Twenty six years later that is still the job, done every day for global health insurers, diplomatic missions and ministries of foreign affairs: a 24/7 alarm center, expert case managers, nurse-led triage, telemedicine doctors, and a hospital network built one agreement at a time. Pulsar puts that same operation behind a policy you can buy for your own trip.
- 2000MDabroad is founded to coordinate medical care for travelers and expats abroad.
- 2016US network access through Aetna, today 6,093 hospitals in all 50 states.
- 2026Pulsar launches, run by the same case team.
An experienced team, measured.
Call at any hour and a person answers: expert case managers, nurses and telemedicine doctors who do this every day for insurers and governments.
Three companies, one clear chain of responsibility.
You should know exactly who does what when you buy cover. Here it is.
Asteroid LLC
Pulsar (pulsar.travel, also pulsarassistance.com) is a brand of Asteroid LLC, a Florida company that designs and sells travel assistance. Asteroid issues your voucher and handles your purchase, changes and refunds.
MDabroad
US & UK Medical Abroad, LLC, trading as MDabroad, runs the 24/7 case team, the hospital network, guarantees of payment and every claim. It has done this for international insurers since 2000.
Redbridge Insurance Company Ltd. (Barbados)
The medical benefits on international vouchers are insured by Redbridge Insurance Company Ltd. (Barbados), AM Best B++. US residents buy a US product instead, underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company through Travel Insured International.
What MDabroad does, every day.
For more than two decades MDabroad has worked behind the scenes for insurers and governments: the company you never see, that makes sure the hospital gets paid and the patient gets the right care.
Case coordination
A 24/7 case team opens your case, finds the right facility, talks to the treating doctors and follows you until you are discharged or home.
Guarantees of payment
At network hospitals MDabroad guarantees the bill directly, so you are not asked for a credit card at admission.
Medical review
Admissions, transfers and repatriations are reviewed against medical need, and hospital bills are audited so you are not charged for what you did not receive.
Transfers and repatriation
Ground and air ambulance, escorted flights home and, when needed, a family member flown out to be with you.
Who MDabroad works for.
The same case team that looks after Pulsar travelers has served international health insurers, diplomatic missions, ministries of foreign affairs, international organizations, multinational companies and their executives, and expats around the world.

A network built hospital by hospital.
Local correspondents and direct agreements with hospitals and clinics, so there is someone on the ground who knows the facility, speaks the language and can get a bill settled.
United States
Pulsar members access Aetna's US network, available in all 50 states, so hospitals bill at Aetna-negotiated rates rather than list prices.
Around the world
Members are treated at hospitals including Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Clínica Alemana, Hirslanden, Bumrungrad International and Raffles Hospital. See the hospital network.
Latin America
A deep network across the region, built over two decades of cases for insurers and assistance companies.
Your payment and your medical data.
Payments and cards
Card payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI DSS Level 1 payment provider. Pulsar never sees or stores your card number, and Nova, our AI chat assistant, cannot read it. Parametric payouts reach you as a digital payout you can spend at once. Hospitals are paid by our case team, so you show a Verification of Benefits instead of a card; instant virtual cards for those payments are issued through Pliant on the Visa network.
Our promises
Five measurable promises with an automatic remedy: a person answers within 60 seconds, 24/7; a Verification of Benefits within 15 minutes; reimbursements decided and paid within 24 hours in 9 out of 10 cases, and never more than 5 days after complete documents; the price you see is the price you pay; a full refund within 10 days of purchase before cover starts, then 80% back until 3 business days before it starts. Read them.
Telemedicine, unlimited
Every plan includes unlimited video consultations with a doctor, at no charge per consultation and with nothing counted against the medical limit. Delivered by MDabroad's telemedicine doctors in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Medical data
Your medical information is handled by MDabroad under an ISO 27001 compliant information security program, HIPAA compliant processes and GDPR and Brazil LGPD controls, and is shared only with the doctors and hospitals treating you. We never sell it. Flight details go to AirHelp only after you ask us to claim.
