Pulsar or iké Asistencia: what actually changes when you need a doctor abroad?

Pulsar editorial team · Checked on 2026-10-01 against the conditions iké Asistencia (Arajet Travel Assist powered by iké) publishes.

iké Asistencia describes itself as a Mexican company founded in 1988, present in four Latin American countries [4], that designs assistance solutions other companies offer under their own brand [5]. Its solutions page lists protection for domestic and international travel [5], but we found no stand-alone iké travel plan with published conditions on its own site. The travel document we could read is the one for Arajet Travel Assist, an airline program "powered by iké", so that is what this page compares, against Pulsar's Basic plan.

Who is behind the product, and who do you deal with when something happens?

Arajet's help center says the program is Arajet's assistance program in alliance with iké, that Arajet only collects the money, and that carrying out the service is entirely iké's responsibility [2]. The conditions open with: "Servicio proporcionado, gestionado y administrado por asistencia Colombia S.A.S" [English: service provided, managed and administered by asistencia Colombia S.A.S] [1]. They add that the product is provided by companies affiliated or associated with iké, and the definitions section names iké asistencia Colombia S.A.S, a company incorporated in Colombia [1].

Pulsar is sold by Asteroid LLC in Aventura, Florida. Assistance and claims are run by MDabroad (US & UK Medical Abroad, LLC), in international medical assistance since 2000. Medical benefits are insured by the insurer named in the voucher email [9].

How big is the medical limit, and how are plans tiered?

The 30-day round-trip document lists these capped services: medical emergency USD 20,000, dental emergency USD 500, escort for minors and older adults USD 1,000, hotel for a family member during a hospital stay USD 360 (up to 5 days), travel for a family member when you are hospitalized alone more than 30 days USD 1,000, early return after a serious incident at home USD 1,000, funeral repatriation USD 5,000 and trip interruption USD 1,000. Most are limited to one event [1]. Arajet's help center points to other packages and costs that we did not read in full [2].

Pulsar's Basic plan is USD 30,000 per person (EUR 30,000 on Europe trips); Standard is USD 50,000, Superior USD 100,000 and Prime USD 150,000 [9].

What does "one event" mean in practice?

The wording of the limit matters. The medical service is "Servicio limitado a 1 (un) evento, hasta por $20,000 USD" [service limited to one event, up to USD 20,000] [1]. Its exclusions add that it does not cover specialist consultations or treatments, nor trips abroad of more than 30 consecutive days [1]. The text says that once iké has provided the medical services, the later and additional treatments and consultations that come from that first assistance are paid by the user [1].

Pulsar's medical limit is per person for the plan you bought, and nothing counts against it for telemedicine [9].

What about pre-existing conditions?

The exclusions of the medical section say iké "no cubrirá la atención o continuidad en tratamiento de enfermedades preexistentes" [will not cover care for, or continued treatment of, pre-existing illnesses] [1]. For a pre-existing illness the traveler did not know about, iké covers only the first medical attention to stabilize the user, and anything after that is the user's cost [1]. The section headings are not numbered.

Pulsar does not cover pre-existing conditions, except an acute heart attack or stroke, covered whatever your history. An optional upgrade (USD 15,000 or 20,000) covers acute episodes of listed chronic conditions [9].

What are the age and trip-length rules?

Age: "Sin límite de edad" [English: no age limit] [1]. Trip length: the program is valid up to 30 days from the start of the trip from your origin city with Arajet, and if the trip lasts longer than 30 calendar days, validity is not extended [1]. Services apply wherever Arajet has flights, as origin or destination [1].

Pulsar: maximum age 85 at purchase; from 65 the medical limit applies at 75 percent; maximum trip 180 days [9].

Is there a deductible?

The conditions we read do not state a deductible [1]. Pulsar's plans sold on the site have no deductible [9].

How do you get care, and is there telemedicine?

You request the service through the assistance lines and give your name, certificate number, location, phone number and the type of assistance [1]. For hospitalization you must contact iké within the first 24 hours; without the notice, the user is responsible for the costs [1]. The conditions say reimbursements cannot be handled for assistance you contracted yourself without prior authorization [1].

Telemedicine is included: phone guidance from iké's medical team, and a video consult with a general doctor of up to 20 minutes, 24 hours a day, with no limit on events. It does not apply when the user has no internet access [1].

At Pulsar, people answer 24/7 by phone (+1 786 257 0040) and WhatsApp (+1 786 414 1901) in Spanish, English or Portuguese. Call first, and in network the clinic bills Pulsar directly. Telemedicine is unlimited on every plan, with no charge per consultation and nothing counted against the medical limit [9].

How long do reimbursements take?

The conditions do not state a payment timeline [1]. For Pulsar, check the issued plan terms for reimbursement timelines.

In what currency are you charged?

The amounts in the conditions are in US dollars [1]. We did not find a statement about the currency of the charge in the document.

Pulsar charges in your own currency (COP, MXN, PEN, CLP and others) at the prior day's market rate plus 1 percent, rounded up. Refunds are the same amount in the same currency [9].

Can you cancel and get money back?

Arajet's help center says Travel Assist is an additional service and, under its terms, such services are not refundable [3].

Pulsar: full refund within 10 days of purchase if the trip has not started and nothing was used. After that, 80 percent back or a free date change until 3 business days before cover starts [9].

What happens if your flight is delayed?

The benefit list we read has no flight-delay benefit [1]. Pulsar reimburses reasonable expenses for delays over 12 consecutive hours (clause 38) [6]. Flight delay, with Blink Parametric: register your flight 24 hours ahead and get a lounge pass if it is delayed, live now. An automatic USD 50 payment for a delay of 2 hours or more is coming November 2026. Eligible flights per the terms on your voucher.

What do they say about sports?

The conditions exclude taking part in any kind of race, competition or exhibition (cars, horses, bicycles) [1].

When might iké (Arajet Travel Assist) be the better choice?

  • You are flying Arajet and want a short add-on arranged at booking, for a trip of 30 days or less [1][2].
  • You are over 85 and need a plan with no stated age limit [1][9].
  • You want a lodging allowance for a companion, an early-return benefit or funeral repatriation included in the same program [1].

How do I choose?

  1. Find out whether the medical limit is per event or for the whole trip, and who pays for follow-up treatment.
  2. Check the notice rule: how many hours you have to call, and what happens if you miss it.
  3. Match the program's validity to your real trip length.
  4. Ask who the provider is in the document, who only sells it, and who answers the phone.
